CIRQUE DU SOLEIL
man i hope i spelt that right for the sake of my 6 years learning francais. haha.
OMG I LOVED IT. I LOVED IT. I LOVED IT. I LOVED IT. I LOVED IT.
ABSOLUTELY.
i was buggered as hell since i've been up since 6 50 am but omg. LOVED IT.
here's the short version of what i thought:
acts: OMG THEY ROCKED THEY'RE TALENTED THEY DESERVE GOLD STARS
lighting: OMG HOW THE HELL DID THEY DO LIGHTING SO DAMN WELL??!!!
comedy: HILARIOUS. SHOULD BE PART OF COMEDY FESTIVAL.
stage setting: WONDERFUL. ABSOLUTELY GENIUS.
music: OMG LIVE MUSIC THAT SOUNDED AWESOME....IT MAKES IT FEEL SO GOOD
OVERALL: DAMN FINE! GEEZ, IF I COULD, PROBABLY MARRY IT (yes that damn good!!!!)
now for all those who are content with that...u may go on with ur daily lives.....but if u want to know the full story...read on.
ok. so the night started with of course, trying to get there. we actually got to melbourne park at 7 30pm (show starts at 8) and then there was this MAJOR TRAFFIC JAM (like seriously) bc everyone was trying to get parking....turns out, if ur not VIP (which we weren't) then u had to go park somewhere else. of course, we didn't find that out until 7 45. anyway, while the dads went to find parking, the rest of us piled out and tried to find the entrance of the tent. WE COULD SEE THE TENT, just not the entrance.
and then my mother was informed (OMG UR GOING TO LOVE THIS TINA) that this way was to the NEIL DIAMOND SHOW. haha. so we started walking the other way, but then ppl were like nah its this way...turns out...the mass were going to see mr. diamond.....and the rest of us had to TURN RIGHT to get to teh BIG ARSE TENT.
once ur in, its pretty awesome. overhead there's all these fixtures that tell u that there will be definite swinging. and OMG MY SEATS WHERE AWESOME!!!!!!!! right in the middle, not too close to the stage so i'll get picked on by the acts, but close enough to see the coolness AND in front of me was the sound box, but they were on lower crowd...so NO REALLY TALL BOLD MEN IN FRONT OF ME...PRIME SITTING I TELL U!!!!
anyway, lucky for us we got in abt 7 50! and i'm like yay! then around 8pm....this dude walks out...and he starts (wait for it mady) KNITTING!!!! haha...and he sits there...knitting....then he gets all frustrated and the like and points to his imaginary watch and then starts to rush ppl coming in. so he goes up to ppl who have just walked into the tent, grabs there ticket and starts ushering them away. of course, the spot light is on him...so everyone can see what he's doing. there was this one asian couple, and he took them from one side of the room to another, across the stage, down two different aisles, THEN, kicked the male asian out and stole the gf for himself. IT WAS FUNNY.
after a few more antics like that....the show started. and its really mystical and weird and totally awesome. basically, the story is there is this family with the father, mother, daughter. opening scene is having the father in his chair reading the newspaper, the mother sleeping in another chair, and the daughter on the floor. the daughter starts to sing (and i'm serious) jibberish, but u can tell she's lonely and wishing for something.
THEN, OUT OF THE BLUE, and i'm not kidding abt it...really it was out of the blue (incredible lighting i tell u) there popped this HEADLESS REALLY TALL MAN. and he has an umbrella, and a hat. and gives the hat to the girl.....and so starts her fantasy. AS SOON AS SHE PUTS IT ON HER HEAD...her two tour guides turns up (a girl and the guy who did the ushering before) and suddenly, her parents in the chairs get lifted up and swung all the way to the back where they disappear (illusions i tell u!!). and then abt 20 ppl come out in white jumpsuits and they start jumping around her and blah blah blah and then suddenly THE WHEEL MAN comes out...
the wheel man is this guy who basically roles around in a wheel. and he is incredible. he did this amazing move where he swings the wheel around and then he slips into one of the holes like he's sitting on it, ends up sitting on the floor, and somehow manages to swing himself back up on top of the wheel. u guys may have seen this in the cirque du soleil specials on tv.
after the wheel man, 4 very cute CHINESE girls come out with the diabolos (i think that's how u spell them). Its that toy that spins and spins and u have to keep it like that? WELL THAT WAS BLOODY FANTASTIC. SERIOUSLY. probably the best act in it. REALLY WAS STUNNING. absolutely.
then comedy came out. AND OMG...it was HILARIOUS. ok, so there's two of them but only one came out at this time. and he set up two chairs which becomes his car...and then grabbed a girl out of the audience....and decided to take her on a date. so he opens the invisible 'door' and pretends to drive manual (w all the sound effects) and then he pretends he gets stuck in traffic. and he starts honking at the traffic (him making the honking sound). then he made the girl make the honking sound too. he then gets 'frustrated' and then yanks out his imaginary honk and hands it to the girl. she has a bit of fun and playful chucks it out of the fake window.....and OMG.... THE SOUND PPL, they must have done this like a hundreds of time before and probably knew that most of the audience would do that...and when she threw it out...they had a sound effect of the glass shattering!!!!! IT WAS SOOOOO FUNNY bc she wasn't expecting it!!! anyway, after the man gets over his 'broken' window, he then takes her to this nice picnic place and then subtlely (ie, paul subtle) puts his arm around her and tries to get her to kiss him. and then because he tries so hard, he ends up on top of her. YEP. cirque du soleil guy on TOP of the AUDIENCE girl. anyway, in the end, he gets really upset bc she won't kiss him and 'drives' her back to her spot in the audience....but before she leaves...asks for a kiss on the cheek...AND THEN MOVES HE'S HEAD SO SHE ENDS UP KISSING HIS MOUTH!!! OMGGGGG!!!
after that some more acrobatic stuff using ribbons and robes. haha. AND THEN THEY HAD THIS SKIPPING SCENE...where everyone just skipped w ropes and there was like 20 ppl skipping in and out of abt 6 robes being used. IT was a really really MAGNIFICANT SIGHT.
that was part one. part two wasn't as breathe taking but just as awesome. the 2nd funny guy came out, and he made a movie...and he made audience members GROPE yes, GROPE each other for his movie...TOTALLY HILARIOUS and it was just soo FUNNY to see the audience members forget what they had to do bc it meant they had to do another take!
THEN THEY HAD THEIR MEGA ACROBATIC SCENE. IT WAS BREATHETAKING. just girls and boys being FLUNG from side to side, over shoulders under...jumping (in standing position on top of linked arms of standing men) to the next linked arm to the next linked arm. it was just like bounce and bounce and bounce and bounce. awesome.
there were also lots of really random scenes intertwine throughout the night. like those ppl in those white overall suits coming out during different times doing weird things...like jumping around the girl (who sang jibberish every now and then) and then coming out for 5 secs just to unbutton the top part of their suits and run away again. then some of them came back and became SEALS...OMG *SEETHA, MADY!* SEALS!!! it was HILARIOUS!!!! they really acted like it too...and ah....seriously....seetha...if u do what u do now when u pretend to be seals, but do it on the floor w retarded legs, u could go and join the circus.
red balloons where everywhere also. they symbolised something. but i'd rather not think too much abt them. and the dad and mum appeared at various stages like as if they're realising that they're missing out on their daughter's childhood or something.
anyhoot, the ending was GREAT. basically, abt 2o ppl start prancing around the girl again and so to her two guides and suddenly, u see the HEADLESS TALL GUY come again....and he wants his hat. and she gives him her hat and suddenly it goes into worldwind motion and the red curtains drop from the ceiling and her parents show up and everyone's gone but they are a happy family.
haha. it was brilliant. seriously. i loved it all. i really appreciated the lighting bc half the time u don't see any of the other performers until they want u too....and its like WHAT?? how long have they been there???? and i really appreciated the music...even though it was jibberish...it was AWESOME...live singing, live musicians live everything.
man. i want to see all their shows now!!!! next time they bring a new show out here to melb...I'M SOOOO GOING!!!!
