Hmmm...so i've spent the last 2 hrs watching the federal election and becoming slightly content that Howard looks set to begin his 4th term as prime minister...

But hmmm ask me why and i'll pull out the standard response - economic stability and strength - and fora small potion of it, yes it is true - for those who know me well...the world of finance and economic and business to me is just plain fascinating (even though i know A LOT less than MANY OF U now) and i do strongly believe that we can only get stronger when the economic welfare of this country is secure, stable and in the blue (or is the colour black?)

But if i think deeper...hehe i really haven't given a damn abt this election. Bc at this current time, what the government does or doesn't do, it hasn't really seemed to affect me greatly. And thus, it hasn't pushed me to consider different policies and election promises w scrutiny and how they will affect me, but more importantly, how they'll affect Australia.

that is why i do admire those of u who have meticulously looked at the different policies, criticised those that need to be criticised, and voted accordingly. It is ppl like these that keeps the election from becoming an outright popularity affair.

Considering all this, i can honestly say that the way i voted (yes liberal), was family influenced. My family has always voted liberal, and hence, why not. If my parents feel that the liberal party has helped them since they migrated over here, then fine, i'll follow their lead. But isn't it amazing again just to look at how the environment around u will influence so much of ur life.

And if u think hard, a lot of ur thoughts are not independent. Many of my beliefs stem from my parents, or from my friends or from school. i guess at some point i'm going to be very distrubed by this, but currently i'm not too fussed. There are many personal issues that i've made my own decision on, my own thoughts creating my beliefs, and i'm happy w that for now.

What makes me happy w that for now? is that i do acknowledge that many of my views are still strongly influenced by other factors. That i'm not yet couragous enough to stand on my own two feet and make some big decisions (like, who should i really vote for? hehe) and i'm happy w that bc at least i'm aware of it - there are some ppl who just can't see that yet.

Congradulations to those who are couragous enough to be independent. I mean that sincerely. i hope to reach that one day. But for now, i'm happy enough to follow other ppls' strong steps.

Election day result: Coalition seems to have won the election very strongly.
