reflection time

ah...told u it'll be coming...

so the end of my first year at uni.....and its been quite an interesting journey....
quite quite interesting....

semester 1 was GREAT.....u couldn't ask for a better first semester...somehow i scrapped through exams and passed, somehow i managed to stay on top of things....somehow, i made some new wonderful friends...and everything was peachy....i've actually already done a reflection of semester 1 at the end of sem 1 so i'm not going to bother w it now...

SEMESTER II - well....hehe i can at least say that it was INTERESTING....hehe...busy, full of emotions and so forth and so forth...

i realized something was different as soon as sem 2 started really....it wasn't so easy going as sem 1 was....it just seemed out of wack again...and i was having trouble adjusting...
but me, i let time pass....and as time passed....i guess it got better....

but hehe getting better didn't last very long. it went down hill, it went up again, down, up, down, up, a continuous rollar coaster of a ride....

and most of the time i disliked it. and i really missed the easiness that was sem 1. and as a dear friend termed it "the honeymoon was over" and suddenly i was faced w so many different challenges....

most of them personal. i had a crapular week as it is affectionally labelled straight after rural week and then i had 'look at urself harshly' week in week 13.....and those two were enough to make me want to hide in the corner..

but of course, from bad times do we learn so many things...and i did....i have....and i'll cherish those lessons taught for a long while yet...

anyway, here's a list of thoughts of semester 2, 2004 - some are good experiences, some are bad...some are just things i want to remember abt med in 20, 30,40 years time....

The Good
* beginning anatomy - and so the learning REAL medicine begins!!! i quite like the fact that i quite like anatomy
* dissection: hehe such a WOW moment of my life really - seeing my cadaver for the first time realising a) i could never donate my body to science like this and b) i have ABSOLUTE respect for those ppl who unselfishly donate their bodies - and that was a nice feeling, bc i like that there are still so many things that awe me, and gain my respect
* car rides to and back from uni!!!! YAY!!! hehe i think all of semester 2, i went on the bus abt, i don't know....10 times??? NICE STUFF....hehe i really do enjoy being picked up, taken home....be it amit who does it, or nic (although this stretches the mind a little), i had paul take me a few times and then week 13, nads took me home a few times too... SWEET :D
* adding to our main group ....although they were kinda there in semester 1, it really didn't cement until semester 2 - uh huh, its soo cool to have seetha (our token curry) and paul (our token yugo) come into the folds...
* my b'day surprises!!!! OMG THEY'RE WERE GREAT....LOVED LOVED THEM...i think enough has been said abt them :D
* being able to drive - such a great pleasure....and its more brilliant that i get to go mum, dad, taking car and then realise...wow...they never really know where i am w the car do they? no they don't

* the discovery of the brownie...omg...they're so good! damn expensive though...hmmm....hehe no wait there's more food related stuff:
* the discovery of the BLT sandwich!! OMG OMG OMG.....for friggin $ 4. 50 - its the bestest thing EVER!!! ever!! and ever....and ever....and ever.... hehe ask mady!

The Bad
* darn those stupid emotions!!! for the first time in QUITE THE LONGEST TIME i had to deal w jealousy, hate, disgust, horror, pain all in one big ball of a blob and carry it w me for the rest of semester....argh....major disgusting load....
* darn those stupid emotions part II - last week and suddenly, i couldn't stand the person i had become all semester...really really couldn't....i wonder how many of u made it...
* many 8am tutes in the morning....like....WHA THE? please!!! i thought first year was meant to be easy!!!
* soul searching - i really dislike those two words now...hehe i have no idea how many times this whole semester i've been trying to find 'myself' - just wish i had more courage to be ok w myself
* our actual epi tutors -omg...omg...omg.....hehe first tute, everyone just wanted to hang themselves so they wouldn't have to go through the torture - i think 3 ppl in our tute wanted to throw apple cores at the lady...hehe poor boring lady...
* failing first exam...yeah....well....learn from mistakes...hopefully....
* periodic mood swings...hehe permanent PMS (which reminds me, what happened to george? :P)

all in all, i must say....it was such a full on semester...it was a little...TOO...much.... things changed so much compared to semester 1 and yet....some things didnt' seem to change at all...i can't really pinpoint everything...but hehe i think what really happened in semester 2 was, reality kicked in...and transition time is always such a tough thing...and hehe me being UNIQUE and all...while everyone went through transition time in semester 1.....i had the greatest time ever in semester 1 and somehow ended up going through the ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!! I MISS MY MUMMY period in semester 2. haha....a lot of it was personally emotionally based....in fact...i think i just let my emotions run wild and take control and let it run havoc on my poor mind...hehe well, u learn. boy do u learn.

would i change semester 2? interesting thought. yes. probably. hehe i'd walk into it w a different mind set that i did...but somehow...do u reckon that doing would only postpone my argh moments? probably - and i guess i must be thankful that at least, at least, at least, it happened in semester 1, where its still PGO (say it w me now, PGO!!!) hehe

what's done is done. i can't change anything anymore. and i won't waste time wishing i could. instead, i'm walking into these holidays and semester 1 of 2005 w all the lessons i learnt, all the strategies i'm creating to help me get through one simple day.

now there's all the DEEP crap that happened this semester...
just thought u'd all like to know a few more interesting facts abt this year....

MEDCEST STORY

The Med Couples
#1: leong and someone (argh anyone know?) - i think they were the first couple to get tog...also the first couple to break off...after a week...right...
#2: jess and osama: he's tall, she's small, he's muslim, she's catholic, he's TC 3, she's very nice - i don't know their status at the moment...but last i heard, they broke up...last i saw...they were cuddling....
#3: hugh and julia: they seem happy...hehe started early and still going strong i think ....ummm thankfully, have minimised their public displays of affection...
#4: but uh, ben and stacey? lovely ppl, great great ppl....but uh...hehe still lovey dovey and it can be a bit..much..
#5: casey and lana: both do enjoy their fun but also have their, ummm...disturbing moments..hehe
#6: wilson and kim: ok...he's a little weird, she's quiet and somehow....it works...i don't know...actually haven't seen them tog ever..hehe...
and FINALLY
#7: seetha and pauL!!!!! AFTER SO MANY months of speculation.....it is SEMI OFFICIAL but tough luck...i feel as though u two should be known as med couple #7! haha! although, it would have been nicer to have known earlier....thanks u guys, for waiting until nads and i stopped our bet....so technically....I DID NOT LOSE!!! HAHA!!

hehe i must say - med cest probably has so many other stories that we have no clue abt....hehe all we need is someone to write all the stories down and u definitely have a TV!! believe me.....medicine is like high school but older...not wiser...but still full of its problems...
hehe also please note that my favourite med couple is MED COUPLE #7!!!! hehe they rock! (ok, seetha does, poopies...still has to convince me)

PHEW....ok..i think that's enough for now....its long...but so it should be....

i think the best thing i can take out of semester 2 is that it HAS SHAPED ME...never have i felt like i've grown so much...hehe apparently being sheltered at an all girls' school for 6 years has its downfalls too...

so please raise ur glasses to semester 2. eventful it was, such a good learning experience but HELL, NEVER WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN! hehehe....thanks to all those who contributed to all the really cool small things.....even thanks to those who contributed to the bad...bc now i feel like...i can finally makes something out of myself...and that's a start. semester 2 was such a rollar coaster....i think i may need two drinks for it.

what i learn today, will help me tomorrow. what i cry for today, will be a distant memory tomorrow. what i smile for today, will keep me happy tomorrow.
what i wish for today, is for a better tomorrow
